Formerly of Latrobe, PA

Alice W. “Dolly” Caruso, 89, formerly of Latrobe, passed away on Dec. 17, 2024, at Cleveland Clinic – Medina Hospital. Born on Aug. 15, 1935, in Cloe, Pennsylvania, Dolly lived a life marked by warmth, generosity, and an unwavering commitment to helping others. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Joseph Caruso Jr., her parents, Samuel O. and Alice (Fye) Weaver, and her sister, Joanne Lightcap. 

 

Dolly dedicated her life to service and care, both professionally and personally. After graduating from Latrobe Hospital School of Nursing in 1956, she spent 15 years at Latrobe Area Hospital before becoming a beloved school nurse for Greater Latrobe School District, retiring after 25 years. She held a B.S. Degree from California State University and a Masters Equivalency + from Penn State, and actively supported fellow educators through organizations like GLEA, PSEA, and NEA. 

 

Her faith guided her every step. Dolly was an active member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, where she served on the council, co-chaired blood drives, and volunteered with the prayer team, Stephen Ministry, and Simeanna outreach. She also co-founded the Latrobe Caring Program to support local children in need and owned Caruso Delivery to assist individuals who are unable to leave their homes easily. 

 

A devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, Dolly found joy in her family and simple pleasures like playing cards and dominoes. She is survived by her three children: Kevin Caruso and wife Maureen; Kurt Caruso and wife Donna; and Kelly Elliott and husband Bill. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren: Rachel Marinchek and husband Shaun; Jayson Marcinik; Renee Ramage and husband Chris; Cas Caruso and wife April; Tyler Caruso and wife Jessica; Alex Caruso and wife Andrea; Maureen J.V. Dudas-Caruso and husband Michael Henderson; Zyanya Dudas-Caruso and partner Jake; Nikki Nasuti and late husband Kevin; Joseph Caruso and wife Aura; Chas Elliott and wife Alexis; Laura Zander and husband David; and 19 great grandchildren. Additionally, she is survived by her sister Norma Myers and many nieces and nephews.

 

Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 22, 2024, at the FREDERICK FUNERAL HOME INC., 1543 Ligonier St., Latrobe, PA 15650. A funeral service will be held Monday, Dec. 23, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 331 Weldon St, Latrobe, PA 15650, with the Trinity Pastors officiating.
