Alvin L. Long, 80, of Latrobe, died Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2017, at home. Alvin was born Saturday, Aug. 12, 1936, in Latrobe, to the late Robert Porter Long and Ann Margaret (Eamigh) Long. He was retired with 25 years of service as a truck driver for Vulcan Mold. He was a member Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and his family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his youngest son, Corey L. Long, in 2007; three sisters, Vivian, Roberta and Anna Mae; and four brothers, Robert, George, Calvin and Rodger. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Kay (Connor) Long; two children, Kimberly M. Ballash and her husband, Jim, and Lewis Kevin Long; two grandchildren, Nathan J. Ballash and his wife, Coletta, and Josh P. Ballash and his wife, Chelsea; two great-grandchildren, Reed and Gannon Ballash; two brothers, Edwin Blaine Long and his wife, Marlene, and Richard B. Long and his wife, Mary Ann; two sisters-in-law, Janet Alexander and her husband, Robert, Patricia Palenchar and her husband, Joseph; as well as several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 5, 2017, at FREDERICK FUNERAL HOME INC., 1543 Ligonier St., Latrobe PA 15650. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 6, 2017, at Frederick Funeral Home Inc., with the Trinity pastors officiating. Burial will be in Unity Cemetery, Latrobe.
