Arthur R. "Artie" Lapka

Arthur R. 'Artie' Lapka, 82, of Latrobe, died Wednesday, March 28, 2012, at Loyalhanna Care Center, Latrobe. He was born May 24, 1929, in Greenwald, a son of the late Andrew Lapka and Barbara (Wojtanek) Lapka. Artie was self-employed and an Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in Crabtree, American Legion Post 515, Crabtree Vol. Fire Department, Latrobe Fraternal Order of Eagles, Fox Hill Athletic Association, Hannastown Firemen's Club, Old Crabtree Sportsmen's Association and Bovard Fire Department. He was an avid golfer and a highly respected pool player. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Doris M. (Nalevanko) Lapka in 2006; Andrew Lapka, Nellie Kello, Helen A., Honey Lapka, Jean Prostoff, Fred Lapka. He is survived by three children, Art Lapka Jr., of Crabtree, Lori Quinn and her husband, Carroll, of Pittsburgh, and Stefanie Lutzo and her husband, Michael, of Philadelphia; two grandsons, Peter Lutzo and Oliver Lutzo; three stepgrandchildren and their families; as well as many nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at FREDERICK FUNERAL HOME INC., 1543 Ligonier St., Latrobe PA 15650. The combined funeral detail of local American Legion and VFW veterans will provide military honors at 9 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Bartholomew Church with Father Justin Matro, O.S.B., officiating. Burial at Calvary Hill Cemetery, Crabtree. The family requests memorial donations in his name to Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011.
