Arthur McKay Shaffor, 87, of Erie, formerly of Latrobe, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, Feb. 14, 2008. He will be sadly missed by family and friends. He was born in Saltsburg, a son of the late James and Anna Jane Kelly Shaffor. He accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior in 1956, and was a member of Grace Bible Church in Latrobe, where he held numerous positions. Since relocating to Erie in 2005, he had attended Grace of Calvary Baptist Church. Arthur retired from Mayor Bros. Construction in 1983, where he was employed for 17 years as a foreman/cement finisher. He was a member of the Cement Mason's Local 526, Buildings Trade and Laborers Union, and American Legion Post 515. Arthur was an Army veteran during World War II, serving in the 152nd Infantry Regiment, 38th Cyclone Division, where he saw action in the battle of ZigZag Pass and the battle of Wawa Dam in the Philippine Islands during the Luzon campaign. Also, he served in Hawaii, New Guinea and Leyte. He enjoyed reading his Bible, gardening, traveling and spending time with his family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, James A. Shaffor; four brothers, Allen, John, Ralph and Ernest; along with six sisters, Elviria, Matilda, Jennie, Lila, Evvia and Anna May. Arthur is survived by his wife of 65 years, Hannah Regina Robb Shaffor; a daughter, Linda Smith and her husband, Mark, of Erie; a sister, June Hogan, of Silver Springs, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Nichole, Matthew, Ethan, Michelle, Daniel, Tori and Jason; nine great-grandchildren, Kristi, McKayla, Kirt, Garrett, Timothy, Shauna, Alyvia, Cameron and Ethan James; a great-great-grandchild, Hunter; along with many nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the FREDERICK FUNERAL HOME INC., 1543 Ligonier St., Latrobe, and are invited to attend a funeral service at 11 a.m. Monday in the chapel of the funeral home with Pastor Jason Losier officiating. Interment will follow in Twin Valley Memorial Park Inc., Delmont. The combined funeral detail of American Legion Post 515 and VFW Post 3414 will provide military honors at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the funeral home.
