Betty J. Bucholtz Mekic, 83, of Latrobe passed away Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014, in Excela Health Latrobe Hospital. Born Oct. 29, 1930, in Latrobe, she was the daughter of the late John and Myrtle (Buchanan) Bucholtz. Betty formerly was a production worker for Toyad Corp. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Jasper Mekic; three brothers, John Bucholtz, WIlliam Bucholtz and Robert Bucholtz and his wife, Marie Bucholtz, and a great-grandson, Zachary Mekic. She is survived by her loving daughter, Debbie L. Spillar of Latrobe; son, Lawrence F. Mekic and his wife, Louise, of Madison Township; a brother, Henry Bucholtz of Indiana; four grandchildren, Melissa Spillar and her companion, Ron Paldino, Christopher Spiller and his wife, Ruthann, of Bradenville, Larry A. Mekic and his wife, Joleen, of Madison Township and Nicholas G. Mekic and his wife, Gina, of Scranton; seven great-grandchildren, Devyin, Christopher and Brendyn Spillar, Shianne and Bryce Harr, Larry A. Mekic Jr. and Alexander Mekic; two special nephews Bobby Bucholtz and his wife Nancy and Eric Bucholtz. There will be no public visitation. Services will be private.
