Charles E. Lute Sr., 83, of Latrobe, died Sunday, April 18, 2010, in Loyalhanna Care Center, Latrobe. Born Aug. 23, 1926, in Latrobe, he was a son of the late George and Eliza (Small) Lute. He was a member of Latrobe First Church of God. Mr. Lute had retired from Lucent Technologies as a telephone and communications specialist. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the Army, and a member of American Legion Post 515. He also was an honorary member of Greensburg Fire Department Truck Company No. 2, where he was a former captain, and a member of the Fort Allen Antique Association. He had taken care of the sound equipment at Hillside United Methodist Church in Derry for the last several years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife Joanne (Policastro) Lute; a son, Robert Dean Lute; a daughter, Kathy Jo Lute; two sisters, Hazel Kirk and Eleanor Ernest; and a brother-in-law, George Ernest. He is survived by his wife, Janet (Browm) Lute; two children, Charles E. Lute Jr. and his wife, Marianne, of Erie, and Douglas Glenn Lute, of Wilkes-Barre; four stepchildren, Chris Yumin and James Yumin, both of Latrobe, Janice Markle and her husband, Jeff, of West Newton, and Avrel Pickford and his wife, Barbie, of Derry; four grandchildren, Adam and Aaron Lute, Brianne Mehall and her husband Dennis, and Jenna Lute; six stepgrandchildren, Daniel and Ryan Markle, David, Brian, Justin and Megan Pickford; three brothers, George Lute and his wife, Trudy, of Florida, Walter "Jack" Lute and his wife, Lucy, of Latrobe, and David Lute and his wife, Esther, of Georgia; and a brother-in-law, William Kirk. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the FREDERICK FUNERAL HOME INC., 1543 Ligonier St., Latrobe. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home with the Rev. Ray Kerr and the Rev. Herb Phar co-officiating. Burial will be in Westmoreland County Memorial Park, Hempfield Township. Members of the Greensburg Fire Department will conduct a memorial service at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. The combined funeral detail of local American Legion and VFW members will provide military honors at 9:30 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
