Curtis N. Byrd, 65, of Latrobe, died Thursday, July 25, 2013, at home. He was born May 3, 1948, in Washington, D.C., to the late Ulysses S. Byrd and Mary Alice Martin. He retired from Latrobe Steel as an abrasive machinist. He was a Prince Hall Mason, a member of the Lions Club, a radio announcer for the Association for the Blind and also worked with troubled youth. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Martin; and two aunts, Miriam A. White and Juinita Fitzpatrick. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Tanya S. (Geter) Byrd; a daughter, Cheyenne S. Byrd-Thomas and her husband, Habib S. Thomas; a sister, Patricia Martin, of Washington, D.C.; cousins, Renee White, Michael White, Brandy Wadley, Gina McMillan and Mia Cyrus; and a plethora of loving others. Visitation will be 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 28, 2013 at FREDERICK FUNERAL HOME INC., 1543 Ligonier St., Latrobe, PA 15650. A funeral service will begin 1:00 p.m. Monday, July 29, 2013, in Second Baptist Church of Latrobe. Burial will be in Unity Cemetery, Latrobe.
