Dr. Michael S. "Skip" Marrone, known to his friends as Skip, passed away peacefully at age 72 on Thursday, December 20, 2018. He was born on March 10, 1946, the son of Margaret Marrone Wonderling in Johnsonburg, Pennsylvania. After graduating from Johnsonburg High School in 1964 he attended the University of Pittsburgh where he majored in chemistry. He received a Fellowship in Organic Chemistry from Columbia University in 1968. Skip was employed by Warner Lambert as a Chemist when he decided become a Doctor of Medicine. He received his doctorate from the Penn State School of Medicine at Hershey. He began his private practice in 1979 serving Palmyra and the surrounding area and served as a Medical Officer and Flight Surgeon for the Pennsylvania State Police retiring from private practice in 2002. Several years ago, he came out of retirement to serve as Supervisor and Physician at the VA Medical Center in St. Clairsville, Ohio retiring again this past June. Skip was a proud Freemason and a member of Abraham C. Treichler Lodge No 682 in Elizabethtown and Mount Olivet Lodge No. 704 in Lebanon serving as Worshipful Master of the latter in 2015. He was also a member of The Valley of Harrisburg, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite and Zembo Shrine. He enjoyed laughing with his friends and family, traveling, woodworking, furniture making, and collecting fine Hamilton timepieces. His first love, however, was practicing medicine. His patients often recounted his dedication to his community, visiting them in nursing homes, seeing them after hours and ensuring his elderly patients had their walks shoveled throughout winter. He often stated that his greatest satisfaction came from helping Veterans. A testament to his commitment to Veterans came when the local VFW's lobbied him with calls and letters begging him not to retire. He leaves behind two sons, Scott, Dallas, TX, and Andy Marrone, (Koyumi), Seattle, WA, grandchildren, Sarah and Claire Marrone, Dallas, TX and PFC. Christopher Yuki Ito-Marrone, Fort Sill, OK, a brother Jeffrey Wonderling (Sharon) and a sister Jennifer Somers, (Patrick), both of Murrysville, PA. A good father, friend and community servant who helped and saved so many will surely be sorely missed. Well done true and faithful servant: a life well lived. Friends will be received on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at 11:00 o'clock a.m. at Sell Chapel at 200 Freemason Dr., Elizabethtown, PA 17022 at the Masonic Villages. The visitation will be followed by a Masonic service and then a Memorial service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Masonic Village at Elizabethtown for the "Masonic Charities of The Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania" and mailed to Masonic Villages Office of Gift Planning, 1 Masonic Drive, Elizabethtown, PA 17022.
