Elwood Ray Smith

Elwood Ray "Whitey" Smith, 84, of Greensburg, passed away Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at Forbes Hospital, Monroeville. He was born June 30, 1940, in Meyersdale, a son of the late Elwood Roy Smith and Mabel (Fisher) Smith. He was the owner of E. R. Smith paving. Elwood was a member of Life Spring Christian Church, Greensburg. He was an avid Trap shooter and a Life Member of Amateur Trapshooters Association. He also enjoyed shooting his muzzleloader with the Latrobe Sportsmen Association. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Randy L. Smith; and four brothers, Larry Smith, Stanley Mull, Richard Smith, and Glenn Corley. Elwood is survived by his wife of 64 years, Burnetta (Fox) Smith; a daughter, Yvonne Luft (Robert) of Latrobe; four grandchildren, Aaron Luft, Jill Henderson, Travis Smith, and Rachael Baer; 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Barbara Jane Smith and Carol Mihaly; a brother, Don Corley; and a large number of nieces and nephews. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, August 25, 2024, at the FREDERICK FUNERAL HOME INC., 1543 Ligonier St., Latrobe, PA 15650. A funeral service will be held Monday, August 26, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home, with Rev. Thomas Peretic officiating. A private burial will follow in Union Cemetery, Meyersdale, PA.
