Gilbert N. Gleckl, 88, of Latrobe, died Tuesday, March 3, 2009, at Select Specialty Hospital, Latrobe. He was born July 29, 1920, in Latrobe, son of the late Nicholas Gleckl and Teresa Zitterbart. He was a retired Steelworker for Standard Steel and was a member of Latrobe Presbyterian Church and American Legion Post 515. He was an Army Ranger and participated in the invasion of Normandy. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Florence (Dillon) Gleckl, to whom he was married 55 years; a son, James Gleckl; and a brother, Paul Gleckl. He is survived by a son, Gilbert L. "Gibs" Gleckl and his, wife, Tessie; two daughters, Betty Jo Alexander and Jim Thomas, and Debbie Hoyle and her husband, Bill; six grandchildren, Tom, Robin, Bill, Bonnie, Erica and Diana; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Anthony Gleckl, of California; and two sisters, Teresa Caslin, of Ohio, and Anna Mary Upholster and her husband, Russ, of Latrobe. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday at FREDERICK FUNERAL HOME INC., 1543 Ligonier St., Latrobe, PA 15650, where a memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday with the Rev. Clark R. Kerr. Burial will be private. The combined funeral detail of American Legion Post No. 515 and VFW Post 3414 will provide military honors at 1 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
