Gilbert V. Lloyd

Gilbert V. "Rocky" Lloyd, 82, of Latrobe, died Thursday, July 14, 2005, in Excela Health Latrobe Area Hospital. Born March 18, 1923, in Youngstown, Pa., he was the son of the late Elmer Schultz and Edna Lloyd. Prior to retirement, he was employed as an operator by Kennametal. He was a member of St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church, Youngstown, where he was a former Sunday school teacher for 10 years. A World War II veteran, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW and Frontier Club. He had a great love for music. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Cyle and Thad Michael; and a sister, Louise Baker Frye. He is survived by his wife, Irene E. Turk Lloyd; five children, Linda L. Watts, of Arizona, Douglass E. Lloyd and his wife, Renee, of Latrobe, Laura L. Lloyd Kister and her husband, Barry, of Somerset, David A. Lloyd and his wife, Brenda, of Latrobe, and Deneene Krehlik and her husband, Ryan, of Derry; and seven grandchildren, Mac, Derek, Joshua, Brett, Eric, Michael and Katelyn. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the FREDERICK FUNERAL HOME INC., 1543 Ligonier St., Latrobe. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church, Youngstown, with the Rev. Dr. David P. Von Schlichten officiating. Interment in St. James Cemetery, Youngstown. Military services will be held at 9:15 a.m. Monday in the funeral home by American Legion Post #515 and VFW Post #3414.
