Harry K. Hilty, 84, of Latrobe, died Sunday, March 10, 2013, in Greensburg. He was born Feb. 18, 1929, in Pittsburgh, a son of the late Harry and Margaret (Brown) Hilty. He retired from Latrobe Steel with 39 years of service as a machinist. A Korean War veteran, he served in the Army. He was a member of American Legion Post 515, VFW Post 3414, the Frontier Club, Kingston Club, Lloydsville Sportsmen's Club and St. Joe's Club. He played in many golf leagues. He enjoyed bowling, the beach and watching NASCAR. He went to the Daytona 500 many times. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Nace Hilty, in 1974; and seven brothers and sisters, Mary Vecchetti, Sarah Miller, Patti DeMorino, Samuel Hilty, Peggy Booker, George Hilty Sr. and Charles Hilty Sr. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Patricia A. (Kostelnik) Shepler Hilty; two children, Karen (Bob) Fedoruk, of Greensburg, and Kenneth (Lee Ann) Hilty, of South Carolina; two stepchildren, Jeanine (Mark) Ferry, of Latrobe, and Jeff (Renee) Shepler, of Derry Township; a sister, Shirley Brant, of Latrobe; a brother, Daniel Hilty (Tammy), of Lock Haven; nine grandchildren; and three great-granddaughters. Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at FREDERICK FUNERAL HOME INC., 1543 Ligonier St., Latrobe, PA 15650. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 13, in the funeral home. The combined funeral detail of local American Legion and VFW members will provide military honors at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Unity Cemetery, Latrobe. The family would like to thank the staff of Walnut Ridge Memory Care of Greensburg and Heartland Hospice.
