Irene C. (Shugars) Patty, 94, of Latrobe, beloved mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great-grandmother, has gone to be with the Lord. She died Saturday, Jan. 28, 2017, at Excela Health Latrobe Hospital. Born July 7, 1922, in Whitney, she was a daughter of the late Joseph Shugars and Catherine (Stahover) Shugars. Irene was a certified aide and caregiver. She had numerous jobs taking care of elderly patients as well as young children. She was a member of Christ United Church of Christ, Latrobe. She was a great communicator and loved making calls for local politicians during election time. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert W. Patty Sr.; a son, Robert W. Patty Jr.; two brothers, Syl Shugars and Joseph Shugars; and four sisters, Sister Margretta R.S.M., Cecilia Davis, Wilma Quinn Shimko and Marie Hegel. She is survived by a daughter, Kathy (Larry) Garris; a son, William (Darlene) Patty; a daughter-in-law, Patricia (Ray) Powers; seven grandchildren, George Garris (and his fiancee, Lynn Wier), Carrie (Mark) Hult, William (Melvin) Patty, Robert (Lindsay) Patty, Ryan Patty, Lori Patty and Suzy (Daniel) Giebner; three great-grandchildren, Mark and Gabi Hult and Sierra Giebner; two sisters Marcella Snyder of Ligonier and Verne Holden of Greensburg. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 30, 2017, at FREDERICK FUNERAL HOME INC., 1543 Ligonier St., Latrobe, PA 15650. A private funeral service will be held Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2017, at the funeral home with the Rev. Cindy Parker officiating. Burial will take place in Unity Cemetery, Latrobe. The family would like to thank Pastor Cindy Parker for all of her support during this time and for always visiting Irene and making her feel so loved, the congregation at Christ United Church of Christ for their many lovely cards and phone calls, the Westmoreland Manor staff over the last few years for taking care of our mother and grandma, and all the friends at Westmoreland Manor whom she loved dearly, especially Ruth and Bo.
