James Charles "Jimmy" Mayes, 61, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away at home Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2024, while under the watchful care of his longtime companion, Connie Ann Nelson and his friend since childhood, Billy Porch. He was born Oct. 21, 1963, in Greensburg, to the late James Edward and Mildred Caroline (Lichlighter) Mayes. He was a retired maintenance worker for Westmoreland County Parks. Jimmy was a Life member of Kecksburg VFD Station No. 76. As a Freemason, his Masonic accomplishments were many. Jimmy was a member and Past Master (2006) of King Solomon's Lodge No. 346 F. & A.M. His forte was mentoring Candidates as they navigated through the membership process. His commitment to education has left an indelible mark on the Lodge. As a Capitular Mason in the York Rite, Jimmy was a member of Connellsville Royal Arch Chapter No. 283. He was also a member of the Valley of Uniontown and the Valley of Pittsburgh, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite where he served as Most Wise Master of Pittsburgh Chapter of Rose Croix in 2017-2018. At the time of his passing, he was serving as a Trustee of the Valley. He received Scottish Rite’s highest honor when he was Coroneted a 33rd Degree Mason in 2021. In addition, he was a member of the Syria Shrine of Pittsburgh. Jimmy is survived by his companion, Connie Ann Nelson; a sister, Sally Ann Downs (Chris) of Indianapolis, IN; a niece and goddaughter, Maria Downs; and a nephew, Manny Downs. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 1, 2024, at the FREDERICK FUNERAL HOME INC., 1543 Ligonier St., Latrobe, PA 15650. A parting prayer service will be held Monday, Dec. 2, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the Kecksburg Church of God, 1255 Claypike Rd, Mt. Pleasant, PA 15666, with Pastor Bob Iksic officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant Township. Members of King Solomon's Lodge No. 346 will conduct aMasonic funeral service in the funeral home Sunday at 7 p.m. Jimmy and his family were always appreciative of everything his care team did to help his fight over the last several months.
