Janice P. (Jioio) Petrus, 82, of Greensburg, formerly of Latrobe, entered into eternal rest peacefully Monday, March 19, 2018, at Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital. She was born Dec. 7, 1935, in Latrobe, daughter of the late Fred A. "Bud" Jioio and the late Elvira Theresa (Ferraro) Jioio. She was the owner of Jioio's Latrobe. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church. Janice was a talented vocalist in opera though not many knew of the gifted voice she possessed. At age 15 she could be heard singing opera over the radio show "Starlets on Parade". Later, while attending St. Xaviers she was singing in a school presentation and unbeknownst to her a representative from Julliard was in the audience, who upon hearing her Incredible voice contacted Julliard and had her admitted with no audition necessary. Due to circumstances in her life so few were blessed to hear her sing. Yet, while at Christmas dinners or gatherings, even while in public restaurants at the urging of her daughter, Jeanean, she would sing one or two songs each time wooing those around with the strength and control of her incredible voice. Many breaking out in tears, especially when she sang her favorite, Ave Maria. Janice was indeed more than met the eye. Throughout her last years, she was God's perfect example of unconditional love and forgiveness. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John F. Petrus, in 1999; and her dog, Kippy. She is survived by three children, Gabrielle Damasco and her husband, Paul, Frederick Petrus and his wife, Kim, and Jeanean Smith; five grandchildren, Laura and Emily Damasco, Nicholas and Alex Petrus and Rheagan Smith; two siblings, Joseph Jioio and Rosalie Kesslar; as well as several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, March 25, 2018, at FREDERICK FUNERAL HOME INC., 1543 Ligonier St., Latrobe, PA 15650. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, March 26, 2018, in St. John the Evangelist Church with Father Anthony J. Carbone, as celebrant. Burial will be at Unity Cemetery, Latrobe. The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Carmelite Monastery, 5206 Center Drive, Latrobe, PA 15650.
