John R. Clawson, 54, of Latrobe, died Thursday, Sept. 3, 2009, after a long battle with cancer. Born Dec. 14, 1954, in Johnstown, he was a son of the late Chester H. and Nellie A. Clark Clawson. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as an operator by the Westinghouse Nuclear Division. He served in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam era. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, infant twin Judy K. Clawson, Shirley Hill and Carol Liebel. He is survived by two sons, Mathew A. Clawson and Adam R. Clawson, both of Latrobe; a grandson, Orlando Clawson, of Virginia; a brother, Harry "Chet" Clawson Jr. and his wife, Rosann, of Greensburg; a sister, Bonnie Clawson, of West Haven, Conn.; a friend of 37 years, Tracy Clawson, of Somerset; as well as several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the FREDERICK FUNERAL HOME INC., 1543 Ligonier St., Latrobe. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Johnstown. The combined funeral detail of local American Legion and VFW veterans will provide military honors at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.
