John W. Saxman

John W. Saxman, 88, of Latrobe, died Saturday, July 7, 2007, in St. Clair Hospital, Mt. Lebanon. Born July 6, 1919, in Latrobe, he was a son of the late Clarence and Sara Yohe Saxman. Prior to retirement, he was employed as a carbide engineer by Newcomer Products. He was a member of the Latrobe United Methodist Church, American Legion Post #515, a charter member of the National World War II Memorial, life member of B.P.O.E. #907, Society of Metallurgical Carbide Engineers, and the Westmoreland Manufacturing Association. He was one of the original employees of Kennametal before World War II. After the war, he joined Newcomer Products and worked there until his retirement. Prior to the war, he was a private pilot. During the war, he served in the Army Air Corps and flew with the Transport Command. He attended St. Vincent College and Carnegie Tech. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty J. Brown Saxman, in 2001; a brother, Frederick Saxman; and three sisters, Blanche Demangone, Elyses Graham and Sarah Nowlin. He is survived by a daughter, Pamela S. Clister, of Presto; his sons, John B. Saxman and his wife, Sheryl, of Yorktown, Va., and Harry C. Saxman and his wife, Donna, of North Potomac, Md.; seven grandchildren, Lisa Brown, Kristin Loffreda-Mancinelli, Lauren Clister, Holly Johnston, Jake Saxman, Mark Saxman and Scott Saxman; and five great-grandchildren, Zachery and Stephanie Brown, and Alessandra, Isabella and Aurelia Loffreda-Mancinelli. Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the FREDERICK FUNERAL HOME INC., 1543 Ligonier St., Latrobe. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Latrobe United Methodist Church with the Rev. Aimee W. Twigg officiating. Interment in Unity Cemetery, Unity Township. The combined funeral detail of American Legion Post #515 and VFW Post #3414 will provide military honors at 8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. (The family requests that everyone go directly to the church on Wednesday.)
