Lillian Marie Fisher, 69, of Greensburg, died Sunday, Aug. 21, 2011, in Select Specialty Hospital, Laurel Highlands. She was born July 29, 1942, in Black Lick, daughter of the late Aaron Fisher and Christina Hancock. Lillian's teaching career began at United Area High School, Armagh, then continued at Hempfield Area High School where she taught reading and journalism. While she was advisor to the school newspaper, her students and the Hempfield school were the recipients of a number of prestigious high school journalism awards. Lillian graduated from Blairsville High School and then received a bachelor of education degree from Indiana Univerity of Pennsylvania. Graduate studies were pursued at IUP and the University of Pittsburgh with a master's degree in journalism. After she retired from teaching, her interest in education continued by serving two terms on the Hempfield Area School Board. Until illness prevented her she was active in the Black Lick Free Methodist assisting with youth and womens' activities, particularly the Christian Life Club, for several years. Over the years her leisure time activities were gardening and travel. She loved picnics. She became interested in beading and enjoyed designing jewelry and collecting colorful glassware. She was a member of the Pennsylvania and Westmoreland County Association of Retired Teachers and the Multiple Sclerosis Society. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Zelda Roghair. She is survived by three brothers, Curtis A. Fisher and his wife, Mary Alice, of Greensburg, Bob Fisher, of Black Lick, and John Fisher, of Homer City; five sisters, Daisy Carson, of Black Lick, Lucinda Elgin and her husband, George, of Clovis, CA, Violet Roghair and her husband, Richard, of Black Hawk, S.D., Beverley Sorisio and her husband, Elmer, of Indiana, and Linda Kamperin and her husband, Ken, of Castalia, OH; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at FREDERICK FUNERAL HOME INC., 1543 Ligonier St., Latrobe, PA 15650, where a funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday with the Rev. Dr. George Elgin officiating. Burial will be in Coral Lutheran Cemetery, Coral.
