Margaret J. "Maggie" Trainer

Margaret J. "Maggie" Trainer, 62, of Latrobe, died Thursday, Aug. 30, 2007, at home with her family by her side after a long battle with lung cancer. She was born Feb. 10, 1945, in Latrobe, daughter of the late Charles and Mary (Konency) Shaffer. Margaret was a member of St. Vincent Basilica Parish, Unity Township. She worked at various nursing homes in the area and most recently at Greensburg Care Center. Margaret always enjoyed working with the elderly. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Robert; and two brothers, Charles Jr. and Jerry Shaffer. She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Robert M. Trainer; three children, Kimberly Lopes, of Derry, Robert M. Trainer Jr. and his wife, Melissa, of Latrobe, and Melissa Mohring and her husband, Kevin, of Latrobe; seven grandchildren, Jessica Falcone, Adam Mohring, Mia and Parker Vogel, Mallory, Rebecca and Colleen Trainer; a sister, Maryann Vasinko Vetman and her husband, Gary; numerous nieces and nephews; and her faithful companion, GeeGee.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the FREDERICK FUNERAL HOME INC., 1543 Ligonier St., Latrobe. Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Vincent Basilica. Interment in Unity Cemetery, Unity Township.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Vincent Basilica Parish, 300 Fraser Purchase Road, Latrobe, PA 15650 in her memory. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Father Damian Warnock, O.S.B., of St. Vincent who meant so much to Margaret with his visits and also Dr. Jin Lee and Dr. Sanjeev Bahri and the staff at Arnold Palmer Cancer Center.
