Mary Jane (Priestas) Trumbetta

January 31, 1925 — October 13, 2016

Mary Jane (Priestas) Trumbetta, 91, of Latrobe passed away Thursday, Oct. 13, 2016, in Latrobe Care Center.
Born Jan. 31, 1925, in Latrobe, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Anna (Vogas) Priestas.
Mary Jane’s quiet and humble demeanor shed limited light on her lively past. She skipped a grade in school to graduate at the top of her class, loved to drive her red convertible on the streets of Latrobe, and supported the war effort by working in the local Paragon Manufacturing Co. of New Derry, making grenades during World War II. Prior to her marriage, Mary Jane worked as an assistant manager at Woolworth and Grant’s department stores.
A member of St. John the Evangelist Church, Latrobe, she also spent years volunteering at St. John the Evangelist School as a lunch lady and teacher’s aide. Mary Jane’s loving nature and quiet humor will be greatly missed by those close to her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Charles John Trumbetta, in 2006; four siblings, Anna Marie Koski, Joseph Priestas, Katherine Wellek and Paul "Pete" Priestas, as well as several brothers- and sisters-in-law.
She is survived by her son, Charles Joseph Trumbetta and his wife, Jeanine, of Latrobe; three grandchildren whom she adored, Christopher, Patrick and Cassandra Trumbetta, all of Latrobe; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Frances Priestas, Irene Trumbetta, Thomas and Rose Trumbetta, Richard and Marianna Trumbetta, and Evelyn and Robert Zaccagnini, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, in Frederick Funeral Home Inc., 1543 Ligonier St., Latrobe.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, in St. John the Evangelist Church, Latrobe, with the Rev. Anthony J. Carbone as celebrant.
Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Unity Township.
The family wishes to thank the staff and residents of Latrobe Care Center for the years of friendship and loving care.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Latrobe Care Center, 501 Alexandria St., Latrobe, PA 15650.
