Raymond Harry Stopa, 81, of Derry, died Wednesday, July 2, 2014, in UPMC Presbyterian. Born Feb. 24, 1933, in Scott Township, he was a son of the late Alexander and Amelia (Mayausky) Stopa. He retired in May 1993 after 38 years of service for Westinghouse Electric Co., Blairsville, having last worked as an inspector. He attended St. James Roman Catholic Church, New Alexandria, and Thomas B. Anderson American Legion Post 515. He was a Korean War veteran, having served with the Army. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Victoria Lynn Newman; and two sisters; Mary Jane Stopa and Genevieve Battazzo. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Barbara (Simko) Stopa; a son, Raymond B. Stopa and his wife, Leslie; daughters, Bonita S. Harris and her husband, Bruce Clement, Patricia Lynn Stopa, and "unofficial daughter" Gloria Denise Worthy; four grandchildren, Nichole McKenzie, Jessie Harris, Seth Harris, Seth Stopa and Shannon Stopa; a sister, Helen DeGeorge, of Absecon, N.J.; and a brother, Alex Stopa, of Lake View, Ariz. Private graveside services were held at Union Cemetery, New Alexandria, with Monsignor Lawrence Kiniry officiating. A memorial service and celebration will be announced at a later date.
