Richard H. Potter, 91, of Latrobe, died Tuesday, April 16, 2013, at his home. Born Oct. 18, 1921, in Etna, he was a son of the late Joseph and Barbara Sheets Potter. A self-employed home builder and contractor, Richard was one of the founding members of Sonrise Church and the Union Mission of Latrobe. He was in charge of food banks for several churches and assisted with prison ministries. A member of American Legion Post 515, he served in the Army during World War II and received the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal. The day after the war ended, he met his future wife of 67 years, Iris G. (Negri) Potter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Georgie R. Potter; two brothers, Raymond and Joseph Potter; and one sister, Lois Woods. Besides his wife, he is survived by his two children, Susan J. Amicone and her husband, Lew, and Evone A. Myers and her husband, Michael; five grandchildren, Lew III and his wife, Susie, Eric and his wife, Danielle, Matthew and his wife, Laura, Timothy and his wife, Jena, and Michelle and her husband, Shane; nine great-grandchildren, Sean, Scott, Deric, Sam, Sydney, Alex, Nathan, Emma and Lilly; and one sister, Blanche Siko. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday April 18, 2013, at FREDERICK FUNERAL HOME INC., 1543 Ligonier St., Latrobe, where a funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 19, 2013, officiated by Pastor David Foster, Pastor Christine Florendo and Pastor Gary Tustin. Burial will take place at St. Vincent Cemetery in Latrobe. The combined funeral detail of local American Legion and VFW members will provide military honors at 9:30 a.m. Friday in the funeral home.
