Robert W. Mitchell, 81, of Latrobe, died peacefully Thursday, April 16, 2009, at his son's residence in Port Matilda. Born on March 11, 1928, in Latrobe, he was a son of the late James Mitchell and Florence Hill Mitchell. He was a retired foreman for Latrobe Municipal Authority. He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Veterans Home Association. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and he received a Purple Heart for wounds suffered in North Korea on August 4, 1951. He is survived by two sons, John W. Mitchell and his wife, Janet, of Allentown, and Robert A. Mitchell and his wife, Tonya, of Port Matilda. He is also survived by four grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria (Stadler) Mitchell in 1988. There will be no public visitation. A graveside service will be held Saturday, April 18, 2009, at 11:00 a.m., in Unity Cemetery in Latrobe. Burial will be in Unity Cemetery with Military Honors rendered at graveside.
