Robert Kenneth Shannon Sr., 72, of Latrobe (Unity Township), died Sunday, March 8, 2015, at home. He was born Dec. 14, 1942, in Latrobe, son of the late Robert G. Shannon and the late Edna Casterwiler Blair. He worked in construction as a member of Local 1451. He was a member of Latrobe United Methodist Church and was a member of Local 1451. He served in the Marine Corps in Vietnam. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Annette F. (Warren) Shannon; and three children, Kelly Shannon, of New York, N.Y., Gunnery Sergeant Robert Shannon Jr. and his wife, Gail, of Beaufort, S.C., and Russell Shannon and his wife, Dana, of Latrobe; four grandchildren, Amber Shannon and Hanna Shannon, both of Beaufort, S.C., and Keegan Shannon and Kaden Shannon, both of Latrobe. The family will receive friends from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday, March 12, 2015, at FREDERICK FUNERAL HOME INC., 1543 Ligonier St., Latrobe, PA 15650. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 12, 2015, at FREDERICK FUNERAL HOME INC., with Pastor Paul Wise, officiating. Burial will be private. The family would like to send a special thank you to the staff of the Latrobe Hospital Dialysis Unit as well as to Dr. Jakubec and Dr. Sung for their kind and compassionate care. The combined funeral detail of local American Legion and VFW members will provide military honors at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made in Robert's name to the Latrobe Hospital Dialysis Center, 1 Mellon Way, Latrobe, PA 15650.
