Robert L. Slates

Robert L. Slates, 76, of Latrobe, died Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2008, at Excela Health Latrobe Hospital. He was born March 30, 1921, a son of the late Henry and Grace Miller Slates. He was retired from Rolling Rock Brewery. Bob and his wife, Loretta, were the owners and operators of Bob's Luncheonette from 1968 to 1976 and The Mozart House from 1980 to 1997. He was a member of Latrobe United Methodist Church and a former member of Latrobe Chamber of Commerce. He loved NASCAR racing and traveled frequently for races with his wife. He was a avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He had been a resident of Bethlen Home during the past year and a half. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Loretta E. (Jacobs) Slates; and siblings, Peanut, Charlotte, Shirley, Ellen and Beatty. He is survived by his daughter, Deborah L. Ciocco and her husband, Nick, of Latrobe; and his granddaughter, Hannah Grace Ciocco. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the FREDERICK FUNERAL HOME INC., 1543 Ligonier St., Latrobe, where funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday with the Rev. Gabor Nitsch officiating. Burial will be in Unity Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Latrobe United Methodist Church.
