Virginia S. Griffin

Virginia S. Griffin, 93, of Latrobe, died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2012, at Excela Health Latrobe Hospital. She was born Dec. 22, 1918, in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Hugh Shirey and Bertha (Marks) Shirey. Virginia retired from Teledyne Vasco with 41 years of service. She was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, honorary life member of the Latrobe Business and Professional Women's Club having served in many offices including president, also served on the District and State Federation Boards, member and past president of The Century Club, member of the Hospital Aid Society, volunteer at the Latrobe Area Hospital and member of the Latrobe Chapter of the AARP. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter T. Griffin in 1991; and a brother, Robert H. Shirey in 1995; and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Eva Shirey. Survivors include several nieces and nephews including Mrs. Hollie McDowell and her husband, Charles, of Latrobe, Sandra Pierce, of Latrobe, Keith Shirey and his wife, Linda, of Latrobe, and Robert Shirey Jr. and his wife, Edna, of Tennessee. As per her wishes, there will be no public visitation. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 PM. Friday at FREDERICK FUNERAL HOME INC., 1543 Ligonier St., Latrobe, PA 15650, with Trinity pastors officiating. Burial will follow at Unity Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Memorial Fund of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 331 Weldon St., Latrobe, PA 15650.
