William G. "Bill, Pops" Armitage Jr., 70, of, Latrobe (Unity Township), passed away Tuesday, April 20, 2021, at Excela Health Latrobe Area Hospital, surrounded by his family. He was born July 21, 1950, in Newburgh, N.Y., to the late William G. Armitage Sr. and Shirley (Bash) Armitage. He served in the Navy during the Vietnam War. He was a retired professional pilot and airplane mechanic. He was a life member of the Quarter Century Wireless Association and American Radio Relay League (ARRL). He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Ruth (Walsh) Armitage; two children, Donald W. Armitage and his wife, Michelle and Laura B. Armitage and her fiance, Ross Johnson; four grandchildren, Allie Peterson, Nathan Peterson, Seaman Jr. Enlisted (E-3) ABHN Nicholas Armitage and Noah Armitage; a sister, Susan Caruso and her husband, John; three nephews and their families; and his two dogs, Missy and Dixie. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 22, 2021, at the FREDERICK FUNERAL HOME INC.,1543 Ligonier St., Latrobe, PA 15650. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 23, 2021, in the funeral home, with the Rev. Chris Livermore officiating. Military honors will be rendered in the funeral home.
