William Dale Aukerman

William Dale Aukerman, 82, of Unity Township, died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012, in Excela Health Latrobe Hospital. Born Sept. 26, 1930, in Pleasant Unity, he was a son of the late Ira "Pete" and Lillian (Bronson) Aukerman. He was a member of St. Vincent Basilica Parish. Prior to retirement, he had been employed as a bricklayer by Latrobe Steel for 45 years. He was a Korean War veteran, having served in the Army. He enjoyed traveling. He had visited all 50 states and traveled to Europe four times. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Elizabeth (Bridge) Aukerman; a daughter, Mary Pianko and her husband, Joseph, of Unity; two sons, Dr. William David Aukerman and his wife, Joelyn, and Richard J. Aukerman; four grandchildren, Stephanie Pianko, of New York, William Douglas, Marc James and Brody Alexander, all of Unity; a brother, Jay D. Aukerman; and two nieces, Linda LaRue and her husband, Bill, and Corliss Aukerman. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at FREDERICK FUNERAL HOME INC., 1543 Ligonier St., Latrobe. The combined funeral detail of local American Legion and VFW members will provide military honors at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Vincent Basilica. Burial will be in Unity Cemetery, Latrobe.
