William S. Cairns

William S. "Bill" Cairns, of Latrobe, passed away early Saturday, November 16, 2013. He was born April 23, 1927, in Derry, a son of the late W. Chester and Frances (Cribbs) Cairns. He graduated from Derry Borough High School. Bill then served in the US Navy during World War II. After discharge, he attended Seton Hill College and the University of Pittsburgh, where he graduated in 1950. Bill was Treasurer/Manager of Latrobe Masonic Building Trust, the Vice President of Finance and Administration for Latrobe Die Casting Co., Secretary-Treasurer and Manager of Riverside Tool and Die Company, Treasurer and Manager of Derry Building and Loan Assn., Consistory, Syria Temple, B.P.O. Elks No. 907, Stewart Cameron McCloud Soc. of C.M.A., and the American Legion Post No. 0515. Other involvements included: past President and Charter Member of Westmoreland Chapter of NAA (now CMA), past National Director of NAA, past Board Member of American Lung Assn. and Latrobe Community Chest, and past Financial Director for B.S.A., Member of Latrobe Chamber of Commerce. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carole L. (Marietta) Cairns, in 2012. He will be dearly missed by his four loving children: Sandra Buzek and her husband, Jim, of Greensburg, Holly Smith and her husband, Bob, of Long Branch, New Jersey, Cathy Andres and her husband, Kevin, of Moon Township, W. Scott Cairns, Jr. and his wife, Colette of Lititz; five grandchildren: Lindsay (Buzek) Bompiani (and her husband Luka), Jace Buzek (and his wife Jackie Joseph), Adam and Erin Smith, and Brianna Andres; two great grandchildren: Maddyn and Antonella Bompiani; and one sister, Nancy L. Thorn of Longwood, FL. A Masonic Funeral Service will be conducted at Unity Chapel, 114 Chapel Lane, Latrobe, PA 15650 on Wednesday, November, 20, 2013 at 10:30 AM immediately followed by Military Honors. A memorial service, celebrating his life will follow with the Reverend Clark R. Kerr officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Latrobe Presbyterian Church, 428 Main St, Latrobe, PA 15650, the Latrobe Area Hospital Charitable Foundation, One Mellon Way, Latrobe, PA 15650, or a charity of your choice.
