William J. "Jack" Smyth Jr., 90, of Latrobe, formerly of Blairsville, died Monday, Nov. 9, 2015, in the Excela Health Latrobe Hospital. He was born Oct. 21, 1925, in Monessen, to the late William J. and Ann (Rialti) Smyth. He was retired as director of transportation for Torrence State Hospital and was a member of St. Vincent Basilica Parish. He was an Army veteran, having served with the 36th Infantry Division during World War II, including four campaigns, one in Italy and three in France. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Viola M. "Velia" Smyth, in 2008. He is survived by his son, John Smyth and his wife, Donna, of Gastonia, N.C.; and a grandson, Joshua T. Smyth, of Charlotte, N.C. There will be no public visitation. A memorial Mass will be held at a later date. Interment will be in SS. Simon and Jude Cemetery, Blairsville. Full military honors will be conducted at graveside. The family would also like to thank the gentleman from Vince Antinori's Barber Shop on Ligonier Street in Latrobe, for the 43 years of friendship and camaraderie.
